TOP 10 Worst Football Tackles in Domestic League History
There have been some horrific, rash challenges in the past, however I have chosen ten which I think are the worst, but want to ultimately know what YOU think.
10. Newcastle vs Sunderland – Barton on Etuhu:
What’s a top ten worst tackles compilation without Joey Barton? A horrific challenge from the troublemaker as he had no intention of getting the ball whatsoever and set out to hurt the Nigerian.

9. Manchester City vs Reading – Stephen Hunt vs Fernandes:
A reckless challenge made by Wolves’ Stephen Hunt – deserved red.

8. Manchester United vs Liverpool – Steven Gerrard on Michael Carrick:
Dangerous two footed tackle by the Liverpool skipper in a tie they really could have done with winning in what has been a poor season so far (skip to 00:58 for the tackle).

7. Manchester United vs Chelsea – Jonny Evans on Didier Drogba:
Irrational high kick, intended to hurt the Ivorian. Just goes to show the lad’s inexperience in the top division.

Without a doubt Roy Keane gets a shout out for one of many awful tackles, but this one was so bad that it eventually put an end to Alf-Inge’s career.

Not even too sure if you can call this a tackle as Brown just stamps both sets of studs right into Ryan Giggs’ knee. Awful, awful challenge that deserved a red card.

A hint on inexperience and ruthlessness puts the Welsh youngster out for over a year.

Career changing tackle by Martin Taylor, which defined his stay with the Gunners and now plays back for Shaktar Donetsk.

A rash two-footed dive which sees the former Liverpool player off for an early shower.

1. Manchester United vs Crystal Palace – Eric Cantona vs Matthew Symmonds:
“When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much.”
£20,000 fine and 120 hours community service and 7 day prison sentence for Symmonds. Not a football tackle, but one of the most rash football decisions of all time.
